Art of Video Games

Bassem Shaaban worked with the Office of Exhibits Central (OEC) and the Smithsonian’s American Art Museum on the production and design development of the Art of Video Games exhibit; A 5 year touring exhibit about the development of video games. A simple assembly process was necessary and achieved by mating custom HDPE parts and latches. Although the primary focus here was prototyping the “kiosk”, the process of fabrication was streamlined by creating a mill-and-assemble technique developed during the prototyping stage. Here the different pieces of the “kiosk”were milled on a CNC machine. The parts were folded and glued in-place. Shaaban’s tasks were to design develop the prototype of the kiosk, develop an assembly process, fabricate the prototype. Bassem lead this project from beginning to end, with Adam Bradshaw as his supervisor.
